Reading recording magazines or watching interviews with your favorite pro engineers and bands will only help you but so much. And for one huge reason...
They're talking about recording in a pro studio. Not a home studio.
This is critical to understand for you and me.
Since we work out of a home studio, we are starting with a very unique and specific set of limitations and challenges that the pro studio is never faced with.
Think about it for a moment.
Have you ever seen a tutorial or interview in a pro studio where the engineer threw up a pair of expensive condensers over a drum kit and pressed record only to have the drums sound amazing?
And then you go back to your home studio, grab whatever pair of mics you have and throw them up over YOUR drum kit in YOUR little room only to find that the result sounds boxy, woofy, and maybe even harsh?
Yeah - because you're not in a beautifully open, and professionally designed, built, and tuned room. You're in a home studio.
Now, there's nothing wrong with working out of a home studio. I personally love it!
All I'm saying is that there is a reason why we in the home studio world can't simply emulate what we see in recording mags or youtube videos of pro sessions because we have an entirely different set of challenges to work through.
Recording in the home studio is an entirely different beast that requires an entirely different strategy and approach.
Welcome to Total Home Recording, your recording internship in-a-box, and quite possibly the biggest undertaking of my career as an educator.
This course was designed to give you an immersive, insiders perspective on how to go from rough idea to final produced tracks - all from a home studio perspective.
In Total Home Recording I virtually bring you into my home studio and show you step by step exactly how I record bands. Literally, I show you everything.
From session setup, to getting your instruments sounding their best, to mic placement (the good and the bad), to getting better performances out of the musicians, to even harnessing the power of your plugins to get better sounding recordings, it's all here. Nothing is skipped or glossed over.
If you've ever wanted to hang out with me in the studio watch how I track bands, this is it.
In Total Home Recording I show you my step by step home recording method including how to:
So I binged this whole thing till 3 am last night and I must say it was amazing! The biggest take away I have is honestly the infinite studio rack concept. This is the biggest thing I haven’t been doing that seems like it will have a ton of impact come mixing. Amazing stuff!

I loved seeing you go through the whole thing from beginning to end. In the past I have always felt a bit lost. It’s great to see “how the magic happens” – and that there’s no magic involved :)
